Decree, issued by Albert III, Duke of Austria [Present-day Austria]: “We also hold, specifically, that no Jew shall make any purchases for resale or on commission, neither with gold nor with silver, nor with any coin or bill of exchange; the sole exception to this is that they may sell their small items, and those received as collateral, to the best of their ability, as has been the custom since days of old.”
