“Writ” of Duke Johann Christian von Brieg addressed to the City Council of Wroclaw [Present-day Poland]: “[… the prince and the estates of the realm) have decided to diligently stop Jews in the cities and, especially, at the regular annual markets and to detain them until all past-due pensions (taxes) are properly paid at the general-tax-office. The [city] council is to proceed in the same manner against Jews who will be visiting the upcoming market in Wroclaw.”
