Ordinance of the City Council of [Bad] Wimpfen [Present-day Germany; Imperial City of Wimpfen / Holy Roman Empire]: “Jews must apply/pay for [an] escort[-permit] (‘müssen das Geleit lösen)*, when they walk through the valley.” [Researcher’s note: *Geleit lösen refers to the custom in which traveling business and tradesmen were required to apply and be given “protection” to travel through certain domains; Jews were almost always required to apply and receive an “escort/protection permit; not just when traveling, but also when they wished to settle down.]
