Decree, issued by William IX, Landgrave of Hesse [Present-day Germany]: “Be it known that every one of Our Christian subjects shall have the right to retract the sale of a house to a Jew, within four years of the date of sale; upon such a retraction and the reimbursement of the purchase price to the Jew, the latter shall relinquish possession of the house within six months, and a clause to that effect shall be included in any purchase contract with a Jew.”
