“Edict” of Emperor Louis IV [Ludwig the Bavarian] [Present-day Germany]: “We, Louis (‘Ludowig’), Roman Emperor by the grace of God, […] make public with this letter, that we have bestowed a special grace upon Our nobleman, Count Walram of Sponheim (‘Walramen graven ze Spanheim’), Our dear faithful […] that he shall have/keep 30 Jews in his shire/domain (‘graffschaft’) anywhere he wants, and to enjoy and use them [as he pleases] as one should with Jews, until We revoke this [edict]. And in that regard, We issue a certificate (official document) with this letter and with Our imperial seal […].”
