“Rescript Prohibiting Jews from Purchasing Gold and Silver” issued by Duke Fredrick William of Prussia [Prussia / Present-day Germany and Poland]: “We are concerned about entirely prohibiting the presence of all Jews which started 5 years ago. On the other hand, it’s been reported to us, that Jewish trade and exchange is causing a lot of damage. Therefore, Jews are prohibited from purchasing gold or silver entirely or face severe punishment. That which they have already purchased is to be ceased at customs.”
