“Ordinance” issued by Adolphus Fredrick (‘Adolf Friedrich’) IV [Archduchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz; Present-day Germany]: “Each Jew having received concession* (‘Ein jeder concessionierter Jude’) shall be required to produce his letter of protection* (‘Schutzbrief’) or passport at any time while he’s traveling or doing business [on the road]” [Researcher’s note: *Both of these terms referred to having received permission to settle in a particular territory. (‘auf Reisen und Handeln und Wandeln’)]
