Decree by King Rudolf I, Duke of Austria and Styria, for the citizens of Vienna [Present-day Austria]: “[…] 3. None of the Jews are Officials. In order to be faithful to the Catholic principles, we repel the Jews from public office, so that under no pretext of government they may oppress any Christians, since from earliest time, imperial authority has condemned the Jews to eternal servitude for their crime.”
