“Taxation of Jews to help with the Turks” (City) Council of Münster [Prince-Bishopric of Münster; Present-day Germany]: “Also Jews shall be required to help with the Turks (‘turckenhulp’), so that each Jewish person, may he be young or old, gives one Gulden tax and the rich Jews [shall] help the poor in their community with this tax/levy (’anslage’). From now on, each Jew who has assets exceeding 100 Gulden shall owe one Gulden per year.” [Researcher’s note: A similar order was issued on May 30, 1542.]
