ca. 1600

[Possible/Probable] Decree concerning Jews entering the City of Kaufbeuren around 1600 [Germany] [Provisional]:  “No Jew or Jewess shall be allowed into the city, unless he pays a guardian at the city gate. They are to go with the Jews and pay attention to what they do. For every hour the Jews must pay a crown to the guardian. The city council will make sure the guardians are carefully observing what the Jews do.”
