Dec. 5, 1669

“Debt Payment” decree on behalf of the Kaiser addressed to the Jewry of Vienna [Lower-Austria / Present-day Austria]: “From his Royal Majesty […] it is ordered that all Jews are to report in writing – in German or Hebrew – the names and amounts [of debt] they hold of Christians to the Royal commissioner […] within 24 hours of publication of this decree. The claims of Jews who fail to report the ‘active debts’ of the Christians within the given 24 hours or manage to keep certain ones concealed, are to be considered invalid as per His Royal Majesty and that no excuse is to be accepted. This is what everyone has to obey in order to protect themselves from [further] damages.”
