Cabinet Order Number 272 addressed to the General Directory (Generaldirktorium) issued by King Fredrick II of Prussia [Prussia]: “His Royal Majesty… commands that Jews are prohibited from purchasing farms or farm land in villages; however, His Royal Majesty will permit them [Jews] to build houses in villages so long they are not used for cultivation or farming.”
