“Royal Decree” issued by Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II [Present-day Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine; House of Habsburg/Habsburg Monarchy]: “[…] Jews are prohibited to dwell in mining-towns even at the time of the annual markets. […]” [Researcher’s note: In future edicts it is mandated that if a Jew is found in one of the mining-towns without written permission, he shall face imprisonment (decree of June 18, 1802), and fined 5 Gulden the first time, 10 fl, the second time, and 20 Reichsthaler the third time (decree of May 10, 1815).]
