“Royal Resolution” issued by Joseph II [Austria]: “Since it is in no way My intention to allow the Jewish ‘beggar-folk’ (Bettelvolk) to multiply* [in the land], the punishment of expulsion is to be applied to all current and future Jews. The highest judicial authority is to notify the ‘Gathering-Commission’ (Compliationscommission)** so that they take this [royal order] into consideration when drawing up the new ‘Hals’ court rules.” [Researcher’s note: *The word that’s used in the original reads “vermehren” which can also mean “to breed” in German. **It appears that there was a separate commission created to gather and expulse Jews from Austria.]
