“Royal Court Chancellery Decree” issued by the Austrian Royal Chancellery [Present-day Austria]: “[…] Jews are not permitted to attain [the title and a decree of] ‘Doctors of Canonical Law’ (‘Doctores Juris canonici’), however, [they may] become ‘Doctors of Civil Law’ (‘Doctores juiris civilis’) and also attorneys at law (‘Advocaten’) and represent Jews and Christians in this capacity. […]” [Researcher’s note: This decree was reissued as a Governmental Decree on September 11, 1790.]
